AVRO sponsors Jack Ovenden Award 2011

Jack Ovenden’s love of the recovery industry and his commitment to the IVR lives on through the Jack Ovenden Award, which this year was sponsored by AVRO.

The annual award for the ‘Outstanding Student of the Year’ went to Shane Coates of Stoneywood Motors, with the other very worthy finalists being Sarah Keets of McAllisters, Ryan Osment of Boarhunt and Andrew Verran of Ashley WoodRecovery.

Students are initially nominated for the Jack Ovenden Award by their instructors, who must justify and validate their nomination. The nominees are then short listed and invited to attend, with partners, the IVR Gala Dinner which follows the AGM.

Prior to the AGM the finalists attend a panel interview where they are asked a series of questions and graded by the panel, this year the panel included Sean Buckley of DMS Training Services, Andrew McCartney of ISIS and Tony Gibson of Judgepower Training Services.

On presenting the award Nick Ovenden said:

‘It is a huge accolade to even be nominated let alone get through to the final of the Jack Ovenden Award.

The IVR would like to congratulate the students that were nominated, the finalists and, of course, this year’s winner Shane Coates.’

All the finalists received engraved tankards donated by the Rescue Recovery Trainers Association (RRTA).

The award itself takes pride of place at Ashford Recovery and Shane’s name will join the list of commendable winners from previous years.
